ZAMBOANGA CITY - One person was still in critical condition on Sunday while four others remain confined in a government hospital after more than 40 construction workers were injured in Saturday’s collision of two trucks.

City Social Welfare Officer Francisco Barredo said an operator of one of the trucks has promised to shoulder expenses for the victims’ medication.

More than 30 victims were already released from the hospital after treatment. Barredo said most of them only sustained minor injuries.

43 construction workers were injured when two trucks collided in Maria Clara National Lobregat Highway in Barangay Manicahan last Saturday. One of the trucks allegedly overtook a speeding motorcycle and collided with the other truck. Both vehicles were bringing home construction workers, whose respective companies have projects in the east coast.

Police are still investigating the incident.
