Tsinoy candidate murdered in Cotabato
MANILA,Philippines - Unidentified gunmen on Monday shot dead a Chinese-Filipino businessman who is running for councilor of Cotabato City in the May elections.
Initial reports said victim Joseph Datuwata Cuan, 39, had just left his home in Rosary Heights 11 with his two children when their vehicle was flagged down by 3 armed men.
The gunmen shot Cuan on the head and chest, killing him instantly. Cuan's daughter, Zeirra Roseanne Cuan, also sustained injuries in the head and was immediately brought to hospital.
Police said the incident could be politically motivated since the victim is a candidate for councilor in the city. They added, however, that the ambush could simply be a kidnapping gone wrong.
