BATANGAS – One person died while 9 others were injured when the van they were riding flipped over on the Southern Tagalog Arterial Road (STAR) Tollway in Barangay Pusil in Lipa City Tuesday afternoon, officials said.
 
Carlito America, security officer of Star Tollway, identified the fatality as Nanding Lopez of San Jose, Occidental Mindoro.
 
Nine occupants, including the van driver Polito Ponla, were injured and rushed to Mary Mediatrix Hospital for treatment.
 
Initial investigations showed the victims were traversing the northbound lane of the Star Tollway heading to Manila from Batangas onboard a Hyundai Grace van (ULF-606) when the van's rear tire burst, causing the vehicle to flip over.

The accident happened at kilometer 77 of the tollway at 1:27 pm.
 
Lopez died on the spot while the other occupants suffered bone fractures and bruises.
