ZAMBOANGA CITY - Navy operatives apprehended an alleged member of a kidnap-for-ransom group at the shoreline of Barangay Sinunuc in Zamboanga City.

The military identified the suspect as Eric Manaluske alias Eric who was nabbed by operatives of Naval Forces Western Mindanao Combined.

The military operation was reportedly the result of information which said that the group of Nur Hassan Jamiri of Abu Sayyaf Group is plotting another kidnap-for-ransom operation in the city’s Barangay Maasin targeting a prominent businesswoman.

Information relayed to the military command disclosed that a motorized pumpboat was scheduled to dock at the vicinity of barangay Sinunuc.

The responding naval operating team then reportedly conducted interdiction operations against the group resulting in the capture of Manaluske. His other companions however reportedly escaped.

The military said it discovered the suspect has a standing warrant of arrest for carjacking and robbery issued by a Basilan Regional Trial Court.

Manaluske was among the escapees from Basilan Provincial Jail last July 20,2007.

Lt. Steffani Cacho, Western Mindanao Command spokesperson, said legal action is being prepared against the suspect for illegal possession of explosives since recovered in his possession was one MK-IV fragmentation grenade with markings “LN, MRG”.
