2 village chiefs slain in Mindoro, Cavite
CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna – Two barangay captains were shot dead in Oriental Mindoro and Cavite Tuesday in what police said could be election-related crimes.
Senior Superintendent Sonny Ricablanca, Oriental Mindoro police director, identified the slain barangay captain in Oriental Mindoro as Ricardo Ganad, 56, resident and chairman of Barangay Poblacion 3 in Victoria, Oriental Mindoro.
Ricablanca said Ganad was resting in front of his house when two unidentified men posing as vendors arrived and offered the victim tilapia around 7:45 a.m.
Ganad reportedly allowed the suspects to enter his compound to buy their goods. The suspects then shot the victim at close range using caliber 45 pistols, killing Ganad.
Police said the suspects fled on board a motorcycle and headed towards the mountainous Barangay Luyal in Victoria town. Police recovered 4 empty shells of caliber 45 bullets at the crime scene.
Meanwhile, in Cavite City , Barangay captain Reynaldo Domingo of Barangay 23 was shot dead by a motorcycle riding gunman Tuesday around 7:30 p.m. in Barangay Caridad.
Police said Domingo had just visited the wake of a friend when he was waylaid in front of a funeral house by a helmet-wearing gunman.
Probers said the two shooting incidents could be election-related crimes since both were strong supporters of their respective local allied politicians in the May elections.
