Rockslide hampers Negros relief ops
MANILA, Philippines – The transport of relief goods for earthquake victims in Negros Oriental was stalled on Tuesday due to a rockslide that blocked the national road in Manjuyod.
Motorists were stranded for a couple of hours because of large boulders blocking the road.
Some of the boulders were so massive they cracked the pavement.
"Kapag umuulan, lumalambot. Unpredictable na kasi eh," said Engr. Dodo Grabador.
One of those stranded was Albay Governor Joey Salceda and his team.
It took several hours before a road crew, using a bulldozer, was able to clear the road.
The Department of Public Works and Highways, meanwhile, is working overtime on road repairs in the towns of Jimalalud, La Libertad and Guilhulngan.
Several roads and bridges were damaged in these areas because of the 6.9-magnitude quake that hit the region last week.
If the good weather continues, they expect to complete repairs soon to allow the unimpeded transport of aid to the quake victims. -- Report from Jeck Batallones, ABS-CBN News
