Law dean shot, in critical condition
MANILA (UPDATE) – The College of Law dean of Mariano Marcos State University in Batac, Ilocos Norte is in critical condition after he was shot Thursday night.
Police said the victim, Atty. Ramon Leano, was about to board his vehicle outside the campus when a gunman on board a motorcycle shot him in the chest.
The shooting incident occurred at around 6 p.m.
Relatives and friends of Leano said the dean did not receive any death threats prior to the incident.
Leano is also the school’s vice president of administration.
Two suspects, identified as Joemar Kasaga and Reynaldo Laboken, have been arrested by Batac police.
A caliber .45 firearm and a shotgun were seized from them.
A bag allegedly belonging to Leano was also found in their possession.
Police said several witnesses positively identified the suspects as Leano’s attackers. -- Report from Randy Menor, dzMM
