Tricycle-ambulance collision kills 1 in Negros
MANILA, Philippines -- A tricycle driver was killed after his vehicle collided with an ambulance in Negros Occidental Wednesday.
The victim, identified as 19-year-old Michael Luis, was traveling along Crossing Pulupandan when his tricycle was suddenly hit by an ambulance which came from Ilog town and bound for a hospital in Bacolod City.
The victim's passenger, John Dexter Traygo, said they were bound for Bago City when the incident occurred. Traygo was injured in the incident.
Luis was rushed to a hospital in Bacolod by ambulance driver Efren Millan but was declared dead on arrival.
Millan immediately surrendered to police authorities. He, however, claimed that it was Luis who suddenly crossed the highway, resulting in the collision.
He also denied that he fell asleep while driving.
The father of the victim, meanwhile, admitted that Luis did not have a driver's license. -- Report from Yasmin Dormido, dzMM
