MANILA, Philippines - Classes in Albay province were suspended on Thursday after the Bicol river overflowed, the Department of Education (DepEd) said.

DepEd Communications Unit head Kenneth Tirado said classes in both elementary and secondary levels were suspended due to the overflowing river after days of continuous rains.

The Bicol River passes through Camarines Sur, Albay, and Camarines Norte.

Persistent rains that started over the weekend due to the low pressure area near Mindanao had claimed 2 lives in Camarines Norte, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council.

A new low pressure area is approaching southern Mindanao, and is expected to dump rains over Mindanao, Visayas and Bicol region.
