Another Maguindanao massacre suspect arrested
MAGUINDANAO – Another suspect in the 2009 Maguindanao massacre was arrested by the Army's 45th Infantry Battalion in Mamasapano, Maguindanao Saturday morning.
The suspect was identified as Talembo "Tammy" Masukat.
Colonel Dickson Hermoso, spokesperson of the 6th Infantry Division, told ABS-CBN News that the suspect was arrested after a firefight ensued between soldiers and a private armed group while the soldiers were conducting road security checks in Barangay Manungkaling at around 7 a.m.
A soldier, identified as Captain Louie Male, was hurt while one member of the armed group was killed in the incident.
Authorities said Masukat was in the area during the encounter, prompting authorities to arrest him in the virtue of an arrest warrant.
The relatives of Masukat, however, insisted it was only a case of "mistaken identity".
Former Maguindanao board member Zainudin Abutazil, a relative of the suspect, told ABS-CBN News that police have arrested the wrong person and that Masukat's real name is Talimbo Abdulrahman, a former municipal councilor of Mamasapano.
The suspect is now under the custody of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (CIDG-ARMM) in Cotabato City.
The Army said if the claim of the suspect's relatives is true, Masukat should just clear his name in court.
