MANILA, Philippines -- A team from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) arrived in Semirara Island in Caluya, Antique Saturday to investigate the rockslide that killed five miners at an open-pit mine.

The investigating team, led by Lorraine Villegas, offficer-in-charge of the DOLE-Antique field office, and Engr. Michael Izon, labor employment officer, will be coordinating with the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) and Department of Energy (DOE).

DOLE Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz said the agency was tasked to investigate whether Semirara officials adhered to the labor occupational safety and health standards.

She said DOLE will also ask the company to submit a report on the incident.

Meanwhile, rescue operations are ongoing for the five other workers still trapped in the Semirara mine collapse. -- Report from Dennis Datu, dzMM
