15 Mindanao areas under storm signal 1

MANILA, Philippines - Public storm warning signal number 1 has been raised over 15 areas in Mindanao because of the threat of Tropical Depression Crising, state weather bureau PAGASA said Monday night.

Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur including Samal Island, Davao Oriental, Compostela Valley, southern part of Surigao del Sur, Agusan del Sur, Bukidnon, Lanao del Norte, Lanao del Sur, North Cotabato, Maguindanao, Sultan Kudarat, South Cotabato, and Sarangani will experience rains and 60 kilometers per hour winds, according to PAGASA's latest bulletin.

The tropical depression, which is packing maximum winds of 45 kph near the center, has maintained its strength as it threatens southeastern Mindanao.

Crising, which is moving west northwest at 19 kph, is forecast to be 40 km east of Davao City Tuesday night.

The cyclone is bringing estimated rainfall amount of between 5 to 15 mm per hour (moderate - heavy) within its 300 km diameter.

"Residents living in low lying and mountainous areas under public storm warning signal #1 are alerted against possible flashfloods and landslides," PAGASA said.

It advised owners of fishing boats and other small seacraft not to venture out to the eastern seaboards of the country and over the northern seaboard of Northern Luzon.

PAGASA will issue its next bulletin at 5 a.m. Tuesday.
