Maguindanao massacre witness identifies 13 gunmen
MANILA – A key witness in the Maguindanao massacre case, former Ampatuan ally Zukarno Badal, identified 13 accused policemen and militia as among those who shot and killed some of the 57 massacre victims.
There were about 80 accused in the courtroom except for members of the Ampatuan clan, who were allowed by the court not to be present during the Wednesday’s hearing.
The inclusion of Badal, the former vice mayor of Sultan sa Barongis, into the witness protection program was hailed by the prosecution as a major victory.
Badal had knowledge about the alleged conspiracy from the planning, execution to the cover up of the massacre.
Badal was questioned by the defense about an alleged bulge in his chest, accusing him of taping his testimony.
But upon inspection, it appeared Badal was wearing a bulletproof vest as a precaution.
The defense is scheduled to cross examine Badal on Thursday.
