Manhunt on for escaped ex-Maguindanao police chief
MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group on Thursday said it has formed a team to track down retired Maguindanao police chief Piang Adam following his escape from the Sultan Kudarat provincial jail last February 17.
Police arrested Adam last December after findings found weapons and ammunition at his farmhouse in Katico, President Quirino. The former police chief is also facing malversation charges for allegedly misappropriating P2.08 million worth of firearms.
He is not among the 197 suspects linked to the massacre of 57 civilians in Ampatuan, Maguindanao last November 23.
Chief Superintendent Josefino Cataluna, Police Regional Office (PRO) 12 director, earlier said 4 provincial jail guards are being investigated in connection with Adam's escape.
