Landslide hits Davao del Sur; 23 families flee
MANILA, Philippines – At least 23 families fled their homes after a landslide hit a residential area in Davao del Sur on Saturday, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said.
The NDRRMC said some 23 families in Purok Cadena de Amor in Barangay Coronan, Sta. Cruz town fled to higher grounds after a landslide triggered by continuous rains occurred at around 4 a.m.
No casualties and damaged houses were reported.
The families, meanwhile, stayed at the barangay gymnasium, the NDRRMC said.
Municipal disaster management and social welfare officials provided relief goods for the affected residents.
The regional office of civil defense, meanwhile, coordinated with the Mines and Geosciences Bureau for an assessment of the landslide-hit area.
