COTABATO CITY, Philippines -- Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) First Vice Chairman Ghazali Jaafar on Tuesday said the MILF is willing to intervene in the standoff in Sabah where Sultan Jamalul Kiram III's followers have been holed up for two weeks now.

He also expressed concern over the possible consequences the standoff may bring to the gains achieved in the peace talks between the Philippine government and the MILF.

Although the Sabah standoff is not directly related to the peace talks, Jaafar said he believes that when violence arises, everything will be affected.

He called on the Filipinos involved in the standoff to instead engage in dialogues.

"Lahat ng bagay, nadadala sa usapan. Hindi kailangang idaan sa dahas. Kung may gustong mangyari, dapat pag-usapan ng maayos, mag-compromise," Jaafar said.
