PDEA seizes sacks of possible shabu-making chemicals
Anti-narcotics agents recovered several sacks of suspected shabu-making chemicals from a rented home in San Fernando town, Pampanga province, Saturday afternoon.
Superintendent Jose Rayco, chief of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in Central Luzon, said the "foul-smelling" chemicals were discovered by PDEA agents from a home in a subdivision in San Fernando town around 2 p.m.
Rayco said village officials informed PDEA about an "abandoned" apartment home in a subdivision, owned by a family who asked ABS-CBN Pampanga not to be named.
The PDEA officer said the apartment was being rented by a certain Carla Arevalo. The apartment owners said they've become dubious of Arevalo for not visiting the unit for the past two months.
Rayco said when the apartment owners checked the unit, they were welcomed by a foul odor coming from one of the rooms and discovered several sacks of powdered substances.
"Mabagsik ang amoy ng mga kemikal dito na posibleng gamit nga sa paggawa ng shabu," Rayco said.
He said the PDEA would secure a search warrant from the courts to be able to take possession of the chemicals and examine them.
He said police are now hunting down Arevalo, who could be connected to a transnational drug syndicate operating in the province. -- report from Mylene Valencia, ABS-CBN Pampanga
