3 barangay officials hurt in Batangas ambush

MANILA, Philippines -- Three barangay officials were wounded in an ambush in Nasugbu, Batangas, police said.

Barangay Papaya Chairman Marlon Limbog, Barangay Butukan Chairman Magno Capasis and Barangay Councilor Maria Soccoro Yumong were on board an L-200 pick-up when motorcycle-riding gunmen suddenly fired shots at them along J.P. Laurel Street in Barangay Nueve.

Yumong's niece, Priscilla Buenavides, who was with them at the time of the shooting, was also hurt in the incident.

The four victims were brought to De La Salle Hospital in Dasmariñas, Cavite for treatment.

Police have yet to identify the motive behind the shooting. Hot pursuit operations against the suspects are still ongoing. -- Report from Arnell Ozaeta, dzMM
