CEBU CITY-- Following a food poisoning incident last Tuesday, the management of a pizza house in Cebu City acted Wednesday to temporarily close their branch in B. Rodriguez to comply with the sanitary requirements of the Cebu City Council.

The sanitary requirements were recommended by Cebu City’s Health Department to the city council.

Lawyer Rane Montesclaros, legal counsel of Alberto's Pizza, told ABS-CBN News that the restaurant will temporarily close for two weeks to provide renovations, specifically in their kitchen area, to meet the sanitary demands of the Cebu City Health Department.

Montesclaros said, four exhaust fans will be added in the kitchen, which currently has one working exhaust fan. The kitchen will also be tiled and ovens will be added. The restaurant only has five working ovens serving hundreds of costumers daily.

"We are targeting March 16 as our reopening day, hopefully by that time, we have complied with the demands. Rest assured, we will be bouncing back and we will provide a better service to our costumers," said Montesclaros.

All other six branches of Alberto's Pizza around Cebu continue normal operation but will be visited by the members of the Cebu City Health Department Thursday for scrutiny and investigation.

Councilor Gerardo Carillo of the city council said the preventive suspension order is set to compel the management of Alberto's to improve their services and sanitation.

"Well, that's just two weeks. If they can't comply, then the battle continues," said Carillo.

All reported victims of food poisoning who ate a Beef and Mushroom flavor pizza have been released from hospitals. All victims were reportedly negative of the amoebiasis test.

Donnie Quiampo, owner of the B. Rodriguez branch, told ABS-CBN News that the restaurant will have to spend more than P500,000 for the renovation. The management also said it expects the loss for the temporary closure to rise up to P2 million.

Alberto's Pizza B. Rodriguez branch has 40 employees which are also temporarily out of work because of the incident.

Quiampo, however, promised to keep the workers and provide them with their needs as employees.
