Isabela soon to have mini-hydro power plant
ISABELA – A mini-hydro power plant will soon be constructed in San Mateo, Isabela, which can supply 45 kilowatts of power to two barangays or 500 households, reports said.
This facility, according to officials of the National Irrigation Administration-Magat River Integrated Irrigation System (NIA-MARIIS), will also serve as an irrigation facility which will benefit farmers of Brgy Villa Fuerte.
Engr. Mariano Dancel, operations manager of NIA-MARIIS, said the project is their joint venture with the Japan International Cooperation Agency or JICA.
"After construction, ipapasa na sa amin," he said.
NIA-MARIIS officials have also identified 17 irrigation sites in Isabela where they also plan to put up the mini hydro plant. They are also studying the possibility of putting up of same facilities in 180 areas all over the country.
"Kung maisasakatuparan, malaking tulong ito para maibsan ang problema sa supply ng kuryente sa buong bansa," Engr. Claro Maranan, NIA administrator, said.
"Yung mapagkakakitaan pwedeng itulong sa mga magsasaka," Sec. Proceso Alcala of the Department of Agriculture said.
Construction for the mini hydro plant is expected to be finished by November.
Gracing the groundbreaking ceremonies on Tuesday were Alcala, Maranan, representatives of the Department of Energy, Engr. Hiroshi Kobayashi of JICA, and local government officials of San Mateo led by Mayor Crispina Agcaoili.
