MANILA, Philippines -- Two children died in a fire that hit their home in Sitio Batching in Compostela town, Cebu City.

The fatalities were identified as 14-year-old Adjulito Behisika, who is physically disabled, and his 2-year-old sister Maricar.

Investigation showed that the fire was caused by unattended cooking.

Authorities said the two children were left at home after their mother, Jocelyn, went out to fetch water at a nearby well.

Firefighters reportedly failed to immediately respond to the blaze since the victims' home was in a remote area in the sitio. -- Report from June Perez, dzMM
