Councilor survives shooting; 2 relatives killed
TUGUEGARAO -- A town councilor survived a shooting incident that took the lives of his two relatives in the town of Tuao in Cagayan province on Saturday evening.
According to Tuao Councilor Arthur Taguiam, he and his relatives Roldan Bunuan and Leonard Lindo were attending a wedding in Barangay Taibubu when the incident happened.
He went out of the party with his relatives to look for a place to pee when a group of men fired at them.
Taguiam did not sustain any injuries but both Lindo and Bunuan died after sustaining gunshot wounds in different parts of their bodies.
The councilor added that the gunmen were only around 5 meters away from them.
Taguiam identified the gunmen as barangay police officers under the authority of Nestor Lazatin, a barangay captain.
He also identified a certain Alejandro Llamera as one of the gunmen.
However, the barangay captain's wife denied the allegations, saying her husband was at home when they heard the shots.
Three slugs from an M-16 rifle, one slug from a calibre .45 gun, and 2 bullets from a Gauge 12 shotgun were retrieved from the scene of the crime.
Taguiam believes that the incident has something to do with politics since his father ran against Lazatin in last year's election.
The police are currently looking for Lazatin and his companions, Rodrigo Lazatin, Sonny Llamarca and Edmar Culili. -- report from Darlene Gemino, ABS-CBN News Cagayan Valley
