Batangas board member shot inside provincial capitol
BATANGAS CITY, Philippines – A senior Batangas provincial board member was hospitalized after he was shot by a lone gunman while inside the capitol compound Thursday afternoon, police said.
Superintendent Manuel Abu, Batangas police chief, identified the victim as Herminigildo Dolor, 62, a resident of Bauan, Batangas.
He said Dolor had just stepped out from the Sangguniang Panlalawigan building when he was approached by the gunman near the parking lot at around 4 p.m.
The man then pulled out a caliber .45 pistol and shot Dolor in the back before running away.
However, responding policemen gave chase on the suspect and was gunned down in front a bus station at Barangay Kumintang Ibaba, a few meters away from the Batangas Capitol.
Police recovered the gun used by the suspect identified as Jonathan Angon.
Dolor, who suffered a gunshot wound in his back that pierced his lungs, was rushed to Batangas Regional Hospital for treatment. He was out of danger, as of posting time.
Police have yet to ascertain the motive of the shooting incident and the background of the suspect.
