All-woman marathon held in Cebu
MANILA, Philippines – A hundred and eighty-eight women participated in the first ever all-women Ultra Marathon in the Philippines last Saturday in Cebu.
The 50-kilometer run started around 10 p.m Saturday night, with the women running through Cebu City, traversing Mandaue City and finishing at Lapu-Lapu City.
Merlita Dunkin eventually edged Virginia Perajenog for first place. Dunkin finished with a time of 5 hours and 28 minutes, while Perajenog finished a close second with a time of 5 hours and 30 minutes.
The marathon’s oldest runner, 55-year-old Tessie Escasinas finished in third place with a time of 5 hours and 49 minutes.
Dunkin is a veteran marathon runner, having competed in running events for almost 20 years. She has competed and won in 9 Ultra Marathons.
