MANILA, Philippines - The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) has assured that General Santos City residents can watch Manny Pacquiao's fight against Ghana's Joshua Clottey uninterrupted.

The local government of General Santos City said that the NGCP has assured them that the area where their public gymnasium is located will be spared from the power interruption throughout Pacquiao's fight at the Cowboys Stadium in Texas on Saturday (Sunday in Manila).

Local government officials said the live streaming of the fight will be aired for free at the gymnasium. They said tickets are already being distributed to Pacquiao's fans.

Pacquiao, who hails from General Santos City, is risking his World Boxing Organization welterweight belt in the Cowboys Stadium clash.

Meanwhile, several General Santos City residents are already looking for other venues to watch Pacquiao's fight live.

Some restaurant and other entertainment establishments in the city are offering live viewing of Pacquiao fights.

Dionesia Pacquiao, the Filipino champion's mother, said she was planning to watch the fight at Pacquiao's mansion, where a power generator has been installed especially for the fight.

The boxer's father, meanwhile, said that he might opt to get developments about his son's fight over the radio, just like other residents in Mindanao.

The southern island has been reeling from 5- to 8-hour blackouts as hydro-power plants, which are the main sources of power in the south, were already drying up.
