Five men die in CDO landslide

MANILA, Philippines - Five men died in a landslide that struck a construction site inside a subdivision in Cagayan de Oro City on Tuesday afternoon.

Police identified the fatalities as Danny Loay, 18; Philip Goyo, 19; Armand Cabasan, 22; Bonifacio Abalo and Eladio Bongcag, workers of the A. Brown Design Seaters.

Inspector Norberto Zafra of the Puerto police station said the victims were digging a 15-meter hole inside a construction site in Teakwood Subdivision when the landslide took place around 3 p.m..

Four of the victims died on the spot while Bongcag died while being treated at the Northern Mindanao Medical Center.

The city engineering office is looking into the possibility of the company's liability in the accident.

The construction company, meanwhile, has assured that they will shoulder the burial and medical expenses for the victims. With a report from Rod Bolivar, ABS-CBN Northern Mindanao
