MANILA – Actor Richard Gomez is dismayed over the Supreme Court’s decision to unseat his wife, Lucy Torres, as Leyte representative.

In an interview with dzMM on Tuesday night, Gomez said the decision surprised them because his certificate of candidacy (CoC) was valid, which should allow his wife to substitute for him.

He was disqualified because of his failure to sufficiently establish residency in Ormoc City.

“I was disqualified as a candidate pero ‘yung CoC ko was valid kaya ‘yun ang naging basis ng Comelec para makapag-substitute si Lucy sa akin,” he told dzMM.

He said their lawyers will seek all legal remedies to have the decision reversed.

“Nakakalungkot isipin na ganoon nga ang nangyaring desisyon but siguro naman may mga legal remedies pa tayo diyan na pwedeng gawin,” Gomez said.

“Kung iu-unseat nila ni Lucy, at least nakita ng mga tao kung papanong klaseng trabaho ang iniwan namin sa Ormoc,” he added.

Torres is running for the same position in the May 13 elections.

“Ang kagandahan ay mayroon tayong eleksyon, kaya ang tao binibigyan ng free chance kung sino ‘yung gusto nilang mamuno at magpatakbo sa bayan nila,” said Gomez, who is running for Ormoc City mayor.
