(UPDATE) Two alleged rebels killed in Bulacan

Two suspected members of the New People's Army (NPA) were killed in a clash on Wednesday with combined elements of the police and military in Bulacan province.


Lt. Col. Gerald Velez, a battalion commander in Army's 3rd Infantry Brigade, said an encounter between government forces and the rebels occurred in the coastal area of Wawang Capiz, Barangay Taliptip in Bulacan town 4 p.m. of Holy Wednesday.


The military said they received information on the presence of seven armed men in the area and immediately launched an operation led by the 18th Special Forces (Riverine) Company.


The military said that killed in the encounter were a Marlon Verano alias Ka Mike and a certain Ka Palo. The military said that the two fatalities were top-ranking members of the NPA in Central Luzon. The bodies of the alleged rebels were brought to Bulacan, Bulacan.


No casualties were reported on the government side.


The military also said that they recovered one Uzi mini-carbine, one caliber .38 pistol and 1 fragmentation hand grenade. Report from Atom Araullo, ABS-CBN News
