Illegally cut lumber intercepted in Palawan
PALAWAN – Around P700,000 worth of illegally cut lumber were intercepted by authorities in Barangay Sta. Lucia and Barangay Luzviminda in a joint operation by personnel of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources and the Bantay Gubat on Thursday.
The operation stemmed from reports about illegally cut logs in the forests located in the mentioned barangays.
Responding personnel from CENRO said they found four pieces of ipil, six pieces of marango, four pieces of saket and 40 pieces of malugay, for a total of 54 pieces of illegally cut lumber, measuring 18,000 board feet.
According to Alonzo Padul of the CENRO, they also found an ax and a long knife in the area, but were not able to make any arrests. -- From a report by Alex Beronio, ABS-CBN News Palawan
