MANILA -- A 4-year-old boy was stabbed dead by his own uncle who took him hostage in Barangay Maharlika, San Jose del Monte, Bulacan on Saturday morning.

The victim was identified as Dennis Sibaluca Jr.

Police said the suspect, Jose Puyo Jr., was armed with a "balisong" or butterfly knife when he took the boy hostage.

Initial investigation showed that the suspect, who came from Naga just three days ago, had an altercation with the spouse of his cousin inside their house in Barangay Maharlika earlier today.

After the incident, the suspect suddenly took the 4-year-old boy hostage at around 9 a.m.

Upon seeing the responding policemen, Puyo immediately stabbed the boy five times.

The incident prompted police to shoot the suspect two times, causing his immediate death.

The boy was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival. -- Report from Dennis Datu, dzMM
