A one-year-old baby was killed while his parents were severely injured after fire razed their home in Barangay Sta. Barbara, Zamboanga City Tuesday morning.

Baby Mohammad Usri Jafaar is the son of Basil and Misba Jafaar, both of whom are in critical condition. Authorities, however, are still determining whether another Jafaar child, who is still missing, perished in the fire or managed to escape.

Reports from the Bureau of Fire Protection said that the fire could have started by accident. Fire Marshall Jaime Ramirez said Basil was setting up a fire for cooking when he accidentally poured in too much kerosene and caused the fire to blow up.

The incident affected 25 other families after the fire spread and destroyed nearby structures including a warehouse, a residential home, and a boarding house.
