Law enforcers shut down one of the largest production centers of pirated DVDs in Angeles City in Pampanga Tuesday that had equipment estimated worth P180 million ($3.7 million).

Armed with a search warrant, elements of the Presidential Anti-Smuggling Group and the Optical Media Board raided the warehouse at Magalang Avenue, Pandan village in Angeles City based on a tip.

Officials said a secret door inside the warehouse led authorities to the main production center. They said the warehouse had sacks of polycarbonate crystals and brand new replicating machines that were obviously shipped from abroad.

They said the production center could produce up to 100,000 pirated discs every day.

OMB officials said they are still looking for the owners of the warehouse, identified as Helen and Gilbert Lee.

Last year, the OMB seized a total of P1.73 billion worth of seized counterfeit discs, equipment and other paraphernalia in the country. Raids conducted by OMB agents in Metro Manila’s shopping malls, illegal stalls, outlets and factories led to the seizure of more than five million fake DVDs, CDs, MP3s and other equipment.
