Batangas congressman's aide shot dead
LIPA CITY, Batangas – Violence marred the start of the campaign period here after one of the staff members of Batangas 4th District Rep. Mark Llandro Mendoza was shot dead on Sunday evening.
Senior Police Officer 2 Archie Limbo, chief investigation officer of Lipa Police, identified the victim as Carlos "Charlie" Mendoza, the representative's community affairs officer.
Carlos, 57, reportedly had just attended a campaign rally when he was ambushed by the suspects a few meters away from his house in Sitio San Nicolas in Barangay Balintawak at around 9:30 p.m.
Mendoza died on the spot after sustaining multiple gunshots to the head.
The suspects, on board a motorcycle, immediately fled the scene. A manhunt operation has been launched against them.
Police are eyeing politics and family feud as positive motives behind the killing.
Rep. Mendoza is running for re-election this May.
