Missing plane with 7 passengers sighted in Isabela
The missing 10-seater plane with seven people on board has been spotted in a remote area in Maconacon town, Isabela province, police said Friday.
Chief Superintendent Roberto Damian, Cagayan Valley regional police director, said police in Maconacon town received information that the twin-engine BN Islander plane of Chemtrad Aviation Corp. was spotted by residents between Flores and Reina Mercedes villages.
Damian said the information came from the search team formed by the police, the Philippine Air Force (PAF) and the local governments in the province.
He said the search team failed to get information about the seven passengers identified as Captain Tomas Z. Yañez, Capt. Reiner Ruiz, Senior Police Officer 2 Rolly Castaños, Celestino Salacup, Abelardo Baggay, Joel Basilio, and James Bakilan.
"Wala pa info sa mga tao kung patay sila o buhay (There are no information if the passengers are already dead or alive)," said a text message sent by the search team to Damian.
Damian said search teams from Divilacan and Maconacon towns were on their way to the area to verify the sighting. He said PAF personnel have stopped the aerial search for the missing plane, but will resume operations on Saturday.
The Chemtrad plane with tail number 764 left Tuguegarao airport at 8 a.m. Thursday. It was supposed to land in Maconacon town the same day.
