1,000 residents affected in Davao fire
DAVAO (UPDATE) – Firefighters were finally able to put out a fire which hit Isla Verde Boulevard in Davao City after six hours, affecting around 1,000 residents.
The blaze razed houses in at least three barangays – 21-c, 22-c and 23-c, according to firefighters.
Initial reports said the fire started around 7 p.m. Friday, and was declared fire out around 1:30 a.m. Saturday.
According to authorities, the fire may have originated from a “pot session” involving three people, two of whom have been identified only as alias “Batchon” and alias “Tisay”.
Mayor Rody Duterte arrived at the scene around 11 p.m., and assessed the situation of his constituents, reports said.
Firefighters also had a hard time going to the fire site due to narrow streets, it was learned.
According to Duterte, affected residents will be staying at the mini forest gym and some identified schools in the city.
Authorities are still trying to determine the number of houses damaged, and the number of affected families. Duterte, meanwhile, promised to help the victims. - report from Francis Magbanua, ABS-CBN News Davao
