MANILA - A tropical storm off the Pacific Ocean is expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility Sunday afternoon, bringing rains over the eastern sections of Visayas and Mindanao.

PAGASA weather forecaster Jun Galang said that as of 10 a.m., the tropical storm with international name "Peipah" was last located 1,275 kilometers east of General Santos City. It has maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 80 kilometers per hour.

Galang said it is moving west northwest at a constant speed of 20 kph.

“After pumasok mamayang 5 p.m., kinabukasan na ulit mararamdaman ang mga pag-ulan. Sa ngayon po, nasa tropical storm intensity siya. Pero pagpasok po nito mamayang hapon, hindi pa kaagad randam. Within the next 24 hours onwards, lalakas na,” he said.

The cyclone will be locally named "Domeng" once inside the Philippine territory.

While no cyclones in the month of April have made landfall in the last 10 years, Galang said the weather bureau is still not discounting the fact that it might hit land.

Galang said the cyclone is not expected to affect Metro Manila unless it heads towards the direction of Mindoro.

“Kapag tumawid sa part ng Samar area at tumagos sa may Mindoro, maaari po tayong makaranas ng pag-ulan [sa Metro Manila] sa Friday or Saturday,” he said.

This weather disturbance will be the fourth cyclone to enter PAR in 2014.
