BAGUIO, Philippines – Parks, hotels and malls in Baguio City were packed as around half a million tourists trooped to the summer hotspot for the long Holy Week break.

Tourists also flocked to churches and religious sites like the Lourdes grotto, Dominican Hill and Mt. Cabuyao.

The city chose six first-timers as the lucky summer visitors. They were given free board and lodging for four days and a guided tour of tourist spots in Baguio and Benguet.

They also engaged in extreme sports.

As their visit ended, the lucky visitors were given souvenir items and 10 grams of gold.

After the long break, bus terminals are now full of returning vacationers.

Buses headed to Manila are fully-booked until Tuesday.

Many had already reserved their tickets but some are still hoping to become chance passengers.

From a hundred, one bus company doubled the number of their trips.

To ensure security, the conditions of the buses are regularly checked and a thorough inspection is made of passengers' baggage.

The Baguio City Police Office also remains on alert.

Over the break, there were 10 reports of robbery, 12 cases of theft and 2 cases of carnapping in the summer capital. -- ANC
