3 dead, 24 hurt in Quezon bus crash
MANILA (UPDATE) – Three people died and 24 others were injured in a bus accident in Tiaong, Quezon on Wednesday evening.
Tiaong Police chief Supt. Laudemer Llaneta said a Lucena-bound JAM Liner bus careened off the road and then flipped over after colliding with an approaching dump truck past 11 p.m.
Alyssa Sangayan, 10; and Remedios Tandrones, 65, died on the spot. Another passenger, Eden Tandrones, died while being treated at the hospital.
Twenty-four others, including bus driver Juvani Impestan and the bus conductor, were wounded in the crash. They were brought to various hospitals for treatment.
Some of the passengers who were rushed to the hospital said the bus was on moderate speed when the crash occurred.
The dump truck allegedly encroached on the opposite lane of the road, resulting in the collision. The truck driver denied this allegation, but police investigators said debris found at the crash site suggest that the truck was to be blamed for the accident.
JAM Liner representatives who went to the crash site promised that the bus firm will shoulder the hospital and burial expenses of the victims.
They refused to answer the question on whether the bus unit is a ''colorum." However, some JAM employees were seen erasing the markings on the bus. – report from Francis Faulve, ABS-CBN News
