MANILA -- The Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) is now organizing itself into a political party.

MILF vice chairman for political affairs Ghadzali Jaafar said they are still in the early stages, but they expect to complete their plans for the United Bangsamoro Justice Party within the year.

Jaafar said they want to have enough time to prepare for the 2016 elections.

MILF chairman Murad Ebrahim will be the chairman of the political party. The MILF Central Committee will be the one to choose the provincial and city leaders for the party, he said.

"Ang balak natin eh sumali ito sa election 2016... Dapat may partido yung mga kandidato. So isa ito sa paraan para makasiguro kami na yung mga kandidato na gusto namin sumali sa election in 2016 ay mananalo," he said.

He said all members of the MILF are automatic members of the political party. The Bangsamoro people and even Christians are also welcome to join the party.

Asked if the MILF's political party will be fielding candidates for the posts of president, vice president and senator in the 2016 polls, Jaafar said, "That, I don't know because depende yan sa policy, depende yan sa mga mamumuno sa political party."

The government and the MILF signed a historic peace agreement last month, paving the way for the creation of the Bangsamoro political entity. -- With ANC
