MANILA, Philippines - Former Supreme Court chief justice Hilario Davide Jr. on Tuesday officially endorsed the candidacies of Liberal Party presidential and vice-presidential bets Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III and Mar Roxas.

In a campaign sortie in Cebu, Davide described Aquino as the presidential candidate who will bring “real change” to the Philippines.

"This is the best time for our country to have real change and this change can be accomplished through the leadership of Noynoy and Mar," he said.

Davide, the former chief magistrate who presided over the impeachment of formal president Joseph Estrada, said he resigned as the Philippine representative to the United Nations to campaign for Aquino and “enlighten our people on the need to choose the best.”

He previously noted that it was Lakas-Kampi Christian Muslim Democrats presidential candidate Gilbert Teodoro who initiated his impeachment in 2002 when he was still chief justice.

Davide's son, Hilario "Junjun" Davide III, is running for governor of Cebu against reelectionist Cebu Gov. Gwen Garcia.
