Residents from a nearby community were alarmed over the discovery of several pieces of vintage bombs at the construction site of the new capitol of Rizal province in Antipolo City.

Construction workers have been working on the site of the new provincial capitol for two months now when their heavy equipment accidentally dug up several bombs allegedly left behind by Japanese and American soldiers after World War II.

ABS-CBN News correspondent Gus Abelgas said among the explosives recovered were aerial bombs, artillery projectiles and mortar shells.

Police said workers normally excavate WWII-type bombs at construction sites in the areas of Antipolo, Tanay, Taytay and Rodriguez towns.

Authorities sent the recovered bombs to the Crow Valley in Tarlac to be detonated.

They said the explosives are still dangerous and advised construction workers and scavengers to be careful when handling vintage bombs.
