PAMPANGA – Around P10 million worth of pirated DVDs were seized by operatives of the Optical Media Board and the city police at the San Nicolas Public Market in Angeles City on Friday.

Police found a stall believed to be used as a warehouse by a supplier of pirated DVDs that are sold on the streets of Angeles City.

The raid was conducted after an informant tipped the police off about the existence of a stall where pirated DVDs were kept.

Other closed stalls in the market were also checked by the authorities, where they discovered thousands of pirated DVDs.

Vendors protested the raid, saying that selling the DVDs is their only means of livelihood.

"Yan lang hanapbuhay namin, bakit hindi yung mga gumagawa talaga nyan ang hulihin nila," Saifa Lumampa, a vendor, said.

Other vendors, however, just turned their frustration around and asked instead to have selfies with OMB chairman Ronnie Ricketts.

"Eto, galit sa ‘kin kanina 'to eh, tara picture tayo para friends na tayo ha," Ricketts told one of them.

"Eh wala ng magagawa, nagpa-picture na lang para panlabas sama ng loob," another vendor, Sitie Racul, said.

According to the OMB, they were able to seize 100 sacks of pirated DVDs during the raid.

"Pinapakiusapan natin sila na sana eh wag na silang pumasok sa ganitong negosyo," Rickettssaid. – From a report by Trisha Mostoles, ABS-CBN News Pampanga
