MANILA, Philippines (2nd UPDATE) – An explosion hit a village in Iligan City in southern Philippines on Saturday evening killing at least 1 person and injuring at least 21 others.

The blast took place at the corner of Roxas Avenue and Quezon Avenue in Barangay Poblacion at around 7:30 p.m.

Police suspect the blast was caused by a grenade, which was hurled by a still unidentified suspect.

Iligan City Police are now tracking down a maroon-white FX van which was used by the suspect as his get-away vehicle.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) is currently on heightened alert after receiving information that another bombing may soon take place.

Iligan City Mayor Lawrence Cruz could not say if the bombing had something to do with the ongoing peace talks between the government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).

Cruz said the talks have so far been smooth.

He added that officials did not receive any threats prior to the explosion.
