VISAYAS, Philippines – The Supreme Court (SC) suspended the election for the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) governor in Western Visayas, scheduled on May 7.

SC issued a 4-page temporary restraining order (TRO), stating that pushing through with the election may spark riot and chaos in the region.

SC gave Justice Santiago Capunan, officer-in-charge (OIC) of IBP and Atty. Erwin Fortunato of IBP Western Visayas 10 days to comment on the urgent motion.

The TRO was also issued by the SC in line with recent concerns raised over the “rotation rule” of IBP governors in the region from 2011 to 2013. -- Report from Alex Calda, dzMM
