3 soldiers killed in Albay landmine blast
MANILA – Three soldiers died after a landmine allegedly planted by New People's Army (NPA) rebels exploded in Camalig, Albay on Monday morning.
Major Angelo De Guzman, spokesperson of Philippine Army's 9th Infantry Division, said several members of the 2nd Infantry Battalion were patrolling in Barangay Maninila at around 8:30 a.m. when the explosion occurred.
Right after the explosion, several alleged NPA guerillas suddenly appeared and fired shots at the government soldiers.
The Army said the rebels took the slain soldiers' two M16 rifles and a K-3 light machine gun. – report from Edwin Sevidal, dzMM
