Nueva Ecija mayor, son deny rape charges
MANILA – Pantabangan, Nueva Ecija Mayor Romeo Borja, Sr. and his son, Romeo Jr., formally denied charges of rape and violations of Republic Act No. 7610 (Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act) lodged before the Department of Justice by the mother of a 17-year-old female allegedly raped by the Borjas.
Appearing before the DOJ in Manila for the continuation of the preliminary investigation into the complaint, the Borjas filed their respective counter-affidavits, claiming that politics was behind the case. They asked for the dismissal of the charges.
The alleged victim, through her sworn statement, narrated that in conspiracy with two of her own relatives, the Borjas managed to rape her on separate occasions from April 12, 2011 up to Sept. 20, 2012 in Pantabangan, Pasay City, and Angeles, Pampanga. Some of these incidents even took place at the Municipal Hall, she claimed.
The alleged victim was joining a local beauty pageant at the time, and Romeo Sr. was supposedly one of her sponsors.
In his two-page counter-affidavit, 60-year-old Romeo Sr. accused the alleged victim of lying.
For his part, Romeo Jr., 36, denied that he threatened to harm the alleged victim, as she claimed, so she would supposedly not report the alleged rape.
Romeo Jr.'s counter-affidavit read.
Romeo Jr. also accused the local church of wanting him and his father replaced as Mayor and Vice-Mayor of Pantabangan.
Romeo Jr. also faces a separate rape complaint at the DOJ, filed by a former nanny in his household who claims Borja also repeatedly raped her and even fathered her child.
