Abu Sayyaf abducts 3 in Basilan
MANILA, Philippines - Abu Sayyaf bandits struck again in Basilan, abducting an agrarian cooperative employee and 2 other persons on Thursday morning, police said.
The Basilan Police Provincial Office said at least 30 bandits led by Abu Sayyaf leader Puruji Indama snatched the 3 victims from a passenger jeepney at Sitio Mompol, Barangay Libug in Sumisip town around 6 a.m..
Police said the passenger jeepney was on its way to Isabela City when Indama's group blocked it and abducted 3 of its passenges.
One of the victims was identified as Cladio Mananita, a resident of Barangay Manggal and employee of the Manggal Agrarian Reform Beneficiary Development Cooperative.
Police have yet to identify the 2 other victims.
Joint police and military teams have been formed to rescue the victims from the bandits. -- Report from Leila Vicente, ABS-CBN Zamboanga
