MANILA, Philippines - The camp of former Isabela Governor Grace Padaca asked the Supreme Court on Tuesday to dismiss a graft case against her that resulted in the issuance of an arrest warrant.

In her petition for certiorari, Padaca asked the SC to annul, reverse, and set aside several resolutions by the Ombudsman that pertains to the graft charges filed against her before the Sandiganbayan.

Padaca said the Ombudsman issued the resolutions "without jurisdiction or with grave abuse of discretion." She hopes the SC will issue an order to dismiss the charges against her.

The Sandiganbayan 5th Division earlier issued an arrest warrant for Padaca for malversation of public funds.

The former governor is  accused of giving undue advantage to non-government organization Economic Development for Isabela and Northern Luzon Foundation, Inc. (EDWINFLI) to administer and implement  a regional rice program.

Padaca's counsel, Atty. Francesca Senga, said the arrest warrant has yet to be served and that Padaca was "still in town."

"She is not fleeing, but she is reviewing her legal remedies at this point," Senga said.

Senga said the case against Padaca is simply harrasment from her political opponents.
