Eighty thousand board feet of common hardwood lumber with an estimated market value of more than a million pesos were confiscated by Isabela province’s Task Force on Forest Protection in Barangay Sta. Filomena in San Mariano town in Isabela province.

Dave Siquian of the task force said a report from a concerned citizen helped them to confiscate the logs which he said were illegally cut.

"According to our men may nagsabi nga na merong mga nakatiwangwang na kahoy ditto, ‘andito sa San Mariano. Kitang-kita kung naglalakad nga ang mga magsasaka. May mga kasamahan tayo na nagpatrol on the site at nakita nga na positive ‘yong info," said Siquian who is the point person of the Isabela Task Force.

Sammy Berlin of Community Environment and Natural Resources Office of Naguilian town also said the confiscated logs, which are usually utilized for construction purposes, were from the town of Dinapigue. He said these were transported along a river all the way to San Mariano town.

"Galing sa forest area ‘yan ng Dinapigue, pinadaan sa Diden River tapos pinadaan sa Pinacanauan de Ilaguen River," said Berlin.

Investigation was still on going to determine the owner of the logs.

The seizure of the logs was described as the biggest accomplishment of the task force since it was created.
