DepEd suspends top Silay City education official
Silay City's Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Fernando Po was slapped with a preventive suspension order by Education Secretary Jesli Lapus for 90 days.
The suspension order, which was without pay, was for several alleged charges including several alleged counts of grave misconduct.
Mildred Garay, Department of Education (DepEd) regional office officer-in-charge, implemented the order against Po last week and gave him five days to submit his explanation on the offenses filed against him.
"This is part of due process. He was given a preventive suspension so that the Central office of DepEd can investigate him smoothly. If he is exonerated after 90 days, he will be reinstated and will be paid his salaries and benefits," said Garay.
She said that a fact-finding team from the DepEd central office was sent by Lapus to Silay to look into complaints of five counts of grave misconduct, simple neglect of duty and pursuit of private business, vocation or profession without permission from civil service rules and regulations.
Lapus, in his order, said that DepEd found that there is a prima facie case against Po.
Garay said Lapus has designated Bacolod City Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Milagros Gonzales as officer-in-charge of Silay City Schools Division in a concurrent capacity.
Po could not be reached for comment.
